Speakeasy Gardens

About this Farm

SpeakEasy Gardens is a one-acre farm located on an historic property in the South Valley. The oldest building on the property is from the 1880s and was used as a speakeasy and dancehall during Prohibition; the Armijo family grew grapes in the surrounding fields and made wine. Berenika Byszewski purchased the property in 2012 to start SpeakEasy Gardens. The farm specializes in year-round production of mixed vegetables grown with organic practices, along with herbs and flowers. It features a mature asparagus field, chickens, and an array of farm cats. With a background in archaeology and history, Berenika is interested in linking the history of agriculture in the Valley with contemporary holistic farming techniques, and is building a teaching garden that hosts student service learning activities. One of the missions of the farm is to support the development of female farmers. Berenika is excited to start a new venture of value-added food production based on her Polish heritage. Since its inception, SpeakEasy Gardens has been a member of the AgriCultura Network, committed to serving our local community.
